Sedation Dentistry in Meridian, ID
Calm, Comfortable, and Completely Doable
If anxiety has ever kept you from getting dental care, sedation dentistry may be the gentle, life-changing solution you’ve been waiting for. At Idaho’s Dentist in Meridian, we offer safe, effective sedation options that help you feel relaxed, comfortable, and completely at ease so you can finally get the care you deserve without stress or fear.
Whether you’ve had a past traumatic experience, a strong gag reflex, or just want a calmer visit, we’ll tailor your sedation to your needs and make sure you feel confident every step of the way.
What Is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry is like a chill button for your nerves. It uses medication to help you feel deeply relaxed without putting you fully to sleep. You’ll be awake and responsive, but many patients don’t remember much at all about the procedure.
We recommend sedation for patients who:
· Struggle with dental anxiety or fear
· Have had past dental trauma
· Need multiple treatments in one visit
· Have a strong gag reflex
· Want a more peaceful, pain-free experience
Our Sedation Options
Oral Conscious Sedation
A small pill taken before your appointment helps you feel calm, detached from stress, and deeply relaxed. You'll stay awake and able to respond, but you likely won’t remember much afterward. It’s ideal for moderate to severe anxiety, longer procedures, or anyone avoiding care due to fear.
· No IVs or complex setup
· No “dental dread” or panic
· Most patients say it changed the way they feel about dental visits
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is a gentle inhaled sedation delivered through a small nose mask. Within minutes, you’ll feel calm, light, and maybe even a little floaty. Once the mask is removed, the effects wear off quickly so you can drive yourself home afterward.
· Perfect for mild anxiety, kids, or short procedures
· Safe, fast, and easy
· No lingering grogginess
Why Not IV Sedation?
We don’t offer IV sedation at our office and here’s why: for the vast majority of patients, oral sedation and laughing gas are more than enough to eliminate fear and create a calm, pain-free experience.
IV sedation is deeper, more complex, and requires extra monitoring and recovery time. Dr. Gneiting has treated hundreds of patients over more than ten years using oral sedation and has rarely encountered a case where IV sedation was necessary.
